In this decade, where pollution has become one of the serious problems, we don’t even get fresh air to breathe. Air fresheners are those products which are available in the market to remove or replace the unpleasant odor. They also make the air fresh and pleasant to inhale by giving a good fragrance. They can be in any one of the following forms like candles, aerosol sprays, gels, mechanical products, and potpourri or heat releasing products. The gel form of air freshener is very popular when compared to all other form. In general, an air freshener gel is required to have the following chemical composition: 3-15% amylose, 0.5-30% perfume meant mainly for aroma, maximum of 5% pigment and a balanced water content complimenting the above chemical composition.

The air freshener gels can work in any of the following principle namely: absorption, chemical neutralization, disinfectant, masking, anesthetization etc. Some of the air fresheners gel also uses the principle which occurs in nature. For example: if we inhale the atmosphere after a thunder and lightening, we will find it to be very pure and clean. When we think how this happens, the electric discharge happening through the lightening will be helpful in breaking down the pollutants and therefore we get a very neat atmosphere to inhale. Many air freshener gels have this concept imbibed in it. And it has been proved that such an atmosphere is in fact 1200 times pure and clean than which is obtained by using chlorine.

Air freshener gels can be used for various purposes depending on the requirement. There are fresheners which can remove unpleasant odor caused by bacteria, and other micro organisms and replace them with pleasant smelling, fresh fragrance obtained naturally from various plants, flower and trees. We may also find few gels which are used to maintain a neat atmosphere in any offices, restaurants, rest rooms etc. the type of air freshener gel to be used in big auditorium and in a small room differs. Some bio gels have the capability to neutralize the harmful pollutants and prevent the re occurring of the smell. Thus the use of air freshener has become mandatory now days for our well being.
