Home repair is a part of any home that has to be incurred, if essential. Many home repairs can be handled solely, but there are various other home repairs that have to be handled by professionals. There is no dearth of honest, quality conscious and hard working contractors. But, jumbled with them are the deceitful guys who are also contractors who are least concerned about the job and its effects as long as they get their money. This is also due to the con artists who take opportunity of the construction game as a fast and easy way to earn money. Either way, you the home owner are the loser as it is your money they are walking away with.
The common trick in the building supply is an outstanding deal on fixing a storm door and matching windows. You might find it amazing to see the sensible prices and agree to initiate working. The contractor also starts it and comes with a problem in few days regarding the short supply of stock. He is prepared to wait, but you cannot wait as the home without a storm door or a window is difficult in the winter months. The moment you hurry, he will bring expensive stock making you spend double the estimation. You cannot take back as he claims to have ordered for all the parts. He takes this advantage of the climate and also blames that your windows and doors need custom fitting and hence the cost. You have no alternative and you are forced to go with such home repair fraud.
The contractors are very smart and they start rushing through the job. Similarly, they hardly do the work, but demand payment. There are experienced crooks who know to show good craftsmanship without actually doing something. This eventually wears off and by the time you realize, the crook is gone long back. But, the crook is intelligent enough and is sure that the home owner will bring the shoddy workmanship to notice. They are smart enough to sneak a page in the pile of papers you sign when you hire them. These papers also state that the work is accomplished to your satisfaction and signed by you. This leaves no room making things difficult for you.
Another home repair fraud in the lien trick where the contractors add a clause stating: the contractor has the right to place a lien on your property, if you do not pay them. This is an absolute way of tricking. If you happen to see ripples in the drywall and you deny payment, he has a strong upper hand. Technically, you are trapped by him. However, honest contractors will do such a thing as a last resort only.
